# Ableton MCP

An MCP server that connects Ableton Live to Claude and other language models, letting an assistant create tracks, arrange clips and compose music by controlling the DAW directly.

Ableton MCP connects Ableton Live to Claude and other language models through the Model Context Protocol, enabling prompt-assisted music production, end-to-end track creation, and manipulation of Live's Session and Arrangement views by an AI assistant. It installs by adding a small server configuration to an MCP client such as Claude Desktop or Cursor, run through uv, and by installing a companion Ableton Remote Script that only one client should run at a time.

Once connected through Ableton's Control Surface settings, it can create and modify MIDI and audio tracks, select instruments and effects from Ableton's own library, create and edit MIDI clips with notes, and build full songs autonomously in Arrangement View, including sections such as intro, buildup, drop, breakdown and outro, alongside starting and stopping playback and firing clips across both Session and Arrangement views. The project includes anonymous telemetry to help improve it, documented alongside its other technical details and security considerations.

It is written in Python and released under the MIT license.
