# Abu

A local-first AI desktop assistant, inspired by Claude Code's Cowork mode, that reads files, runs commands, writes documents, and builds reports autonomously on the user's own machine.

Abu is a locally run AI desktop office assistant inspired by Claude Code's Cowork mode. Given a task in plain language, it plans and executes autonomously: reading and writing local files, running commands, and producing documents and reports, with dozens of built-in skills and the ability to grow new ones over time.

It supports multi-conversation project aggregation, scheduled tasks and event triggers, multi-agent parallel execution, browser and computer control, and instant-messaging bot integration with several chat platforms. A recent update added a workspace file tree with a code canvas for browsing, previewing, and editing files with auto-save and version snapshots, a declarative progress panel where the model reports its own plan steps, inline chart, HTML, and diagram widgets, and curated multi-endpoint provider presets for several cloud model access plans.

All data stays local for privacy. It is written in TypeScript, built with Tauri and React, and ships as signed, notarized macOS builds alongside builds for other desktop platforms.
