aicommit

A command-line tool that generates Conventional Commit messages from a staged git diff using a local LLM through Ollama or llama-cpp, so no API key or cloud call is needed to write a commit message.

aicommit

aicommit reads the currently staged diff and generates a Conventional Commit-style message with a local LLM backend, either Ollama running locally or over the network, or llama-cpp-python with a local GGUF model, then opens the proposal in the user's editor for a quick approve, edit or regenerate loop before committing. It installs as a git subcommand, so it is invoked as git aicommit once installed, and a changelog subcommand summarizes a tag range into a CHANGELOG.md entry.

A config command creates a TOML configuration file with settings such as the backend, model, Ollama URL, sampling temperature, max tokens and commit style, opening it in the user's editor without overwriting an existing file. The generated message can also be copied straight to the clipboard for use from another tool such as an IDE, a GUI git client or the GitHub web interface.

It requires Python 3.11 or newer, is written in Python, and is released under the MIT license.
