AIM (Android Runtime for macOS)

A Darwin-native Android compatibility runtime for Apple Silicon Macs that runs Android 16's ART runtime, framework code, DEX bytecode and native ARM64 libraries directly, without a Linux virtual machine.

AIM (Android Runtime for macOS)

AIM implements Android app compatibility on macOS natively rather than by running a Linux virtual machine. Its active implementation, darwin-art, runs the Android Runtime (ART), Android framework code, DEX bytecode, framework widgets and bounded Android ARM64 native libraries directly on Apple Silicon.

A bootstrap tool can probe the runtime by launching a bare APK's app window, and a launcher script can run a compatible no-native APK inside an interactive host window. The project's own README documents supported Android APIs, build inputs, reproducible compatibility gates and current compatibility boundaries in more detail.

The original AIM code is Apache-2.0 licensed; third-party and upstream-derived code, including parts derived from OpenJDK, keep their own licenses.
