# Ambient Context

A macOS menu bar app that quietly logs what you read and work on all day into local Markdown files, then turns that record into a cited knowledge base and daily summary for an AI assistant.

Ambient Context reads the text of whichever window is focused, through the macOS accessibility tree every few seconds, while its menu bar icon is active, and appends what it sees to a plain Markdown file for the day, stored in a folder you own. At a chosen time, or on demand, an agent you already run, such as Claude Code, Codex, or opencode, turns that raw record into two further files: a small cited knowledge base of people, commitments, threads, products, issues, and reading, with every claim linked back to a block in the record, and a written summary of the day with citations checked against the record before saving.

The three files it produces per day are each meant to serve a different reader: the raw context record for an agent that needs evidence and can be searched, the knowledge base for agents building memory about your projects and the people in them, and the notes for you, for a standup or for the model you open the next morning. It runs entirely locally, never makes a model call itself, and is registered as an MCP server so a coding agent or editor can query the context folder directly. It is a signed and notarized macOS 14+ app for Apple Silicon.
