# chinese-poetry-api

A high-performance API service for classical Chinese poetry, offering REST and GraphQL access to close to 400,000 poems with simplified and traditional Chinese, full-text search, and rate limiting.

chinese-poetry-api serves a large collection of classical Chinese poetry, including Tang poems, Song ci, and Yuan qu, through both a REST API and a GraphQL endpoint. A language parameter switches the same underlying data between simplified and traditional Chinese, and the service supports full-text search as well as search restricted to title, content, or author, with automatic categorization by dynasty, author, and poem type.

It applies IP-based rate limiting to protect against abuse, and ships as a multi-architecture Docker image for straightforward deployment. The poetry dataset is managed as a git submodule.

It is written in Go and released under the GPL-3.0 license.
