# Codanna

A local code-intelligence MCP server and CLI that returns a symbol's context, call graph and impact analysis pre-correlated in one response, giving an AI coding agent what would otherwise take a grep-and-read loop.

Codanna is a local code-intelligence and semantic-search MCP server and command-line tool for AI coding agents. It indexes a repository on disk and serves symbol search, semantic search, call graphs, dependency tracking, document retrieval and impact analysis to clients such as Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Codex and Gemini, either as a persistent MCP server for session-long work or as a one-shot command when a language server would be too slow.

Its main command, semantic search with context, fuses what would otherwise be five separate MCP calls into one: it returns matching symbols along with their signature, documentation, callers, callees and recursive impact analysis, each with file and line coordinates an agent can open directly and a symbol identifier it can reuse to avoid name collisions. Because the same tools are available as plain CLI commands, an agent skill can wrap them directly without any MCP plumbing.

It is written in Rust, supports 15 languages, indexes entirely on the local machine with no source code leaving it, and downloads its embedding model once on first use.
