# CodeBurn

A local tool that reads the session files AI coding tools already write and turns them into a cost breakdown by tool, model, project and task, available as a CLI, web view, desktop app and macOS menu bar app.

CodeBurn is a local tool for tracking how much AI coding tools are spending. It reads the session files that tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini already write to disk, prices every token, and prints a breakdown of cost by tool, model, project and task. It needs no account or sign-up.

The same data is available in a terminal view, a browser view, a desktop app, a macOS menu bar popover, and a Capacity Dock that shows a ring per provider at the screen edge; hovering a ring shows what is running and which limits are close to full. Every number is clickable: the total for a day opens a list of sessions, and a session opens into its individual turns so a developer can see which part of a task was expensive. Spending can also be grouped by git branch, so the cost of a feature is visible on its own.

It is written in TypeScript, requires Node.js 22.13 or later, and is distributed under the MIT license.
