codex-cli-best-practice

A reference collection documenting how to configure OpenAI's Codex CLI: its commands, subagents, skills, plugins, marketplace, memories and MCP server support.

codex-cli-best-practice

codex-cli-best-practice is a documentation-style repository that catalogs how to configure and use OpenAI's Codex CLI: built-in slash commands such as /plan, /fork and /review; custom subagents defined as TOML role configs under .codex/agents, including global settings for thread count, depth and job runtime; reusable Skills packaged under .agents/skills with progressive disclosure through scripts, references and assets; and Plugins that bundle skills, app integrations and MCP servers, distributed through a personal or shared marketplace.

It also documents Codex's cross-session Memories pipeline, its Model Context Protocol server configuration for both stdio and Streamable HTTP transports, including OAuth login and Codex acting as its own MCP server, and end-to-end usage patterns such as explaining a codebase, fixing bugs, writing tests, prototyping from a screenshot and delegating work to the cloud.
