# Deep Code CLI

A terminal-based AI coding assistant tuned specifically for the DeepSeek-v4 model family, with thinking-mode and reasoning-effort controls, Agent Skills, and MCP integration.

Deep Code CLI is a terminal coding assistant built around the DeepSeek-v4 model family rather than as a general harness for any provider. It supports DeepSeek's deep-thinking mode with configurable reasoning effort, Agent Skills for extending the assistant's capabilities, and MCP server integration, alongside any other OpenAI-compatible model as a fallback.

Configuration lives in a shared settings file used by a companion VS Code plugin, so model, API key and reasoning settings do not need to be duplicated. Slash commands cover session management such as starting, resuming and forking a conversation, switching models or reasoning strength, listing skills, checking MCP server status, and undoing recent changes.

The project argues that tool-call schemas are not neutral across models, since a model inherits habits from the harness it was trained and reinforced against, and tunes its own tool definitions and context management specifically around DeepSeek's behavior rather than aiming for harness-agnostic compatibility. It installs via npm and is licensed under MIT.
