# Docker MCP Plugin and Docker MCP Gateway

A Docker CLI plugin and gateway that runs Model Context Protocol servers as isolated containers, giving every AI client in an organization one consistent, secured connection point.

Docker MCP Plugin and Docker MCP Gateway is the CLI plugin, docker-mcp, that powers the MCP Toolkit feature in Docker Desktop, letting developers configure and consume MCP servers from the Docker MCP Catalog; it also runs independently of Docker Desktop. Its main feature, the Docker MCP Gateway, addresses the problems of putting MCP tools into production: each local server from the catalog runs isolated inside its own container, with npx and uvx servers granted only minimal host privileges, while every AI client, such as VS Code, Cursor or Claude Desktop, connects to the same Gateway configuration for a consistent set of tools.

It manages secrets for API keys and credentials through Docker Desktop's own secrets handling instead of plain environment variables, supports OAuth flows for services that require token-based authorization, lists and calls tools, resources and prompts across multiple running servers, and logs and traces calls for monitoring. It requires Docker Desktop 4.59 or later with the MCP Toolkit feature enabled, and Go 1.24 or later to build it from source. It is written in Go and licensed under MIT.
