# DS4 Control

A signed macOS menu-bar app that launches, supervises and monitors a local DeepSeek V4 or V4.1 inference server, downloading model weights and gating launches by a Mac's available RAM.

DS4 Control is a macOS menu-bar pane for running DeepSeek V4 and V4.1 locally through dwarfstar. It starts, supervises and monitors a local ds4-server child process, spawning it, detecting readiness from its stderr, polling its health, stopping it gracefully and detecting crashes, and lets a user pick between the V4.1 Flash, V4 Pro (0813) or V4 Flash (0731) variants, each with up to 1M tokens of context.

Because DeepSeek V4 is memory-hungry, the app checks a variant's RAM feasibility before allowing it to launch; for example V4 Pro requires at least 512 GiB of RAM, while V4.1 Flash needs at least 96 GiB, with slower SSD streaming below 256 GiB. Model weights are downloaded automatically through a built-in parallel downloader that resumes across restarts, and the app shows unified memory, GPU, power and CPU usage on a timer.

It can also launch Claude Code or Pi against the running local model for agentic coding, but performs no inference itself; all inference is delegated to ds4-server, an external component vendored as a git submodule for development builds.
