# Electric

A read-path sync engine for Postgres that replicates data out to clients over a low-level HTTP API, handling partial replication and fan-out so applications and AI agents can work from synced local data.

Electric is a read-path sync engine for Postgres. It syncs data out of Postgres to any client, solving problems such as partial replication, fan-out and data delivery so an application does not need to build its own sync layer.

The core sync protocol is a low-level HTTP API that integrates with CDNs for scalable delivery; partial replication is managed through Shapes, which can be consumed directly over HTTP or through client libraries and framework integrations such as a useShape React hook. Getting started requires a Postgres database with logical replication enabled, with Electric run in front of it and connected through a database URL, for example using the project's included Docker Compose configuration.

It is written in TypeScript and Elixir and released under the Apache-2.0 license.
