# Excalidraw Architect MCP

An offline MCP server that turns an AI assistant's description of a system into a laid-out, hand-drawn Excalidraw diagram, covering 25 diagram types from architecture to Gantt charts.

Excalidraw Architect MCP separates what a diagram shows from where its elements sit: the AI describes the components, actors or data points, and the server picks a layout algorithm for the diagram type, styles it, and writes a real .excalidraw file that stays editable afterward. It supports 25 diagram types, including architecture diagrams, flowcharts, sequence diagrams, state machines, ER models, swimlanes, timelines, Gantt charts and hand-sketched charts.

More than 50 technologies such as Kafka, PostgreSQL and Redis are auto-styled with recognizable node styles, and a Sugiyama layout with adaptive spacing lays out graphs while purpose-built geometry handles other diagram types. Rendering uses a pure-Python port of the roughjs stroke generator so exported SVG or PNG output looks hand-drawn rather than like a clean geometric approximation, and diagrams can be revised afterward in natural language since the diagram's structure is stored in the file.

It runs fully offline in Cursor, Claude Code or Windsurf with no API keys, and can optionally persist a system's architecture as a version-controlled knowledge graph the AI can query and lint. It is written in Python and licensed under MIT.
