fauxnix

A bash-to-PowerShell translation layer for AI coding agents on Windows, letting an agent keep writing familiar bash commands that fauxnix deterministically translates, executes natively, and returns in GNU-style output, with no VM or WSL.

fauxnix

fauxnix lets an AI coding agent keep issuing bash-style commands on a Windows machine, translating each one deterministically into PowerShell, executing it natively, and returning output shaped like GNU coreutils: column layout, bash-style error messages, and matching exit codes, with UTF-8 and GBK encoding handled automatically. It makes no LLM calls at runtime; translation is done entirely by its own deterministic engine, checked against a differential corpus of real GNU coreutils output.

It installs with a single command for Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Kimi Code and Qwen Code, plus any other MCP client, and includes a doctor command that verifies encoding, harness configuration and the MCP round-trip. It can also be tried without installing, through an npx command that translates or runs one command directly.

It covers 109 translated commands, and its own package is published as fauxnix-cli, distinct from an unrelated existing npm package also named fauxnix.

A VRAM-aware GPU job scheduler for a single machine: declare how much memory each shell command needs, and it places jobs the moment a GPU has room and reports when a guess was wrong.
