# FrankenGit

A clean-room, pure-Rust, Git-compatible code forge built for autonomous coding agents as well as humans, centered on one immutable repository decision stream instead of a mutable bare repository paired with a separate database.

FrankenGit is not a rewrite of GitHub in Rust; it is built around a different design: one immutable repository decision stream with a small conditional authority head, rather than a mutable bare Git repository plus a separately authoritative product database. The implementation is pure Rust, strictly memory-safe in its first-party code, and never links to or invokes C Git, libgit2 or another Git engine.

It targets parallel, per-core preparation and microbatched publication instead of routing all work through a single repository process, and adds Git-object-aware adaptive transport, sparse semantic workspaces, typed graph fabrics, evidence-carrying agent changes, and locally reproducible releases. Repair, checkpoints, indexes, policy promotion and release publication all follow the same body-first, root-last, anti-rollback discipline.

The project is source-available rather than OSI-approved open source, under the MIT license plus an added rider that withholds rights from named parties (OpenAI and Anthropic). As of the current status, it has a narrow executable one-node boundary but is not yet a general-purpose Git server or a production-ready forge.
