# Gargantua

A native macOS cleaner for developers that scans caches, build artifacts, duplicate files and app remnants, classifies each finding by risk, and explains why it is safe or risky before deleting anything.

Gargantua is a native macOS cleaner aimed at developers and power users. It scans common cache, build-artifact, duplicate-file and app-remnant locations, classifies each finding as safe, review or protected, and explains the reasoning behind the classification rather than just reporting a total size reclaimed. Cleanup only happens through explicit, user-controlled flows, and destructive actions are logged.

It is built as a Swift package with four executables: a SwiftUI macOS app, a local Model Context Protocol server for automation-driven scans and guarded cleanups, a launchd-driven scheduler for background scans, and a privileged helper for operations needing elevated trust. Optional local or cloud explanations can describe why a rule exists, but cannot downgrade a safety rating.

It installs through Homebrew, requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or newer, and updates are delivered through an in-app Sparkle channel.
