Git AI

A git extension that automatically links every AI-generated line of code back to the agent, model, and prompt that produced it, without changing how commits are made.

Git AI

Git AI is an open-source git extension that tracks which lines in a repository were written by an AI agent. After installation, it attaches attribution metadata to every commit automatically, linking each AI-authored line back to the agent, model, and prompt that generated it, so a team does not lose the intent and decisions behind code changes, and a blame-style command shows that history for any file.

It requires no per-repository setup or git hooks and does not wrap the git binary, so ordinary git operations run at their usual speed, and it stores session and prompt data outside of git itself, scanned and redacted to reduce the chance of leaking secrets or personal data into the repository. It also reports aggregate statistics on how much AI-written code is accepted, reviewed, and merged over time, and preserves attribution through rebases and merges.

It is written in Rust and released under the Apache License 2.0.
