GitHub Copilot Hackathon

A set of hands-on lab exercises for learning GitHub Copilot, building a Node.js web server, a .NET or Java REST API, and Python data-engineering tasks, plus a series of self-guided challenges for experienced users.

GitHub Copilot Hackathon

This repository is a demo project for running a GitHub Copilot hackathon: a series of labs that have participants build a web server in Node.js, a .NET Web API, or a Java REST API using Spring Boot or Quarkus, plus two exercises for data engineers and data scientists using Python. A further set of challenges, with lighter guidance, targets people already familiar with Copilot who want to test their skills.

It is configured to run in GitHub Codespaces with a ready-made devcontainer, or locally with Visual Studio Code, Docker, and the relevant language toolchains and IDE extensions installed. It also links to Visual Studio, JetBrains, and CLI Copilot extensions.

The material treats GitHub Copilot as an AI-powered code assistant that suggests lines or functions based on context, and points participants to Copilot Chat for inline help while working through the exercises.
