# GitIntel

An MCP server that computes git repository analytics such as hotspots, churn, temporal coupling, knowledge maps and risk scoring entirely from local commit history, for AI coding agents like Claude Code and Codex.

GitIntel is a standalone, locally built MCP server that analyzes local git repositories and exposes the results as tools an AI agent can call over stdio JSON-RPC; it is not published to npm, so it is cloned, built and registered with an MCP client such as Claude Code or Codex.

Its 12 analysis tools return formatted tables and recommendations instead of raw git output, covering hotspots (files that change most often), churn, temporal coupling between files that change together, knowledge maps of who knows a file best, complexity trends over time, a 0-100 risk score for changes, changelog generation from conventional commits, and contributor statistics. It calls Git through execFile rather than a shell, and every operation is read-only.

Built with Node.js and TypeScript, tested with Vitest. All analysis runs locally with no external API calls. MIT licensed.
