Guardian Coding Exercises

This repository publishes the paired coding exercises the Guardian newspaper's engineering recruitment process uses, so developers preparing for an interview can see the actual exercises and how they are run.

Guardian Coding Exercises

This repository holds the coding exercises the Guardian uses in its engineering recruitment process, across all engineering roles and levels, published so candidates can see what to expect.

The exercise is a 45 to 60 minute paired session in which a candidate and a Guardian engineer solve a problem together, usually with the candidate driving and the engineer navigating; searching online during the exercise is explicitly allowed and encouraged. The Guardian frames it as a fairer alternative to whiteboard tests, since it approximates real collaborative work rather than isolated trivia. Candidates may use whichever language they prefer, though Scala, Python, TypeScript and JavaScript are the Guardian's core languages, with other choices accepted case by case.
