# gutcheck

A single Rust binary that works like grep, but matches lines, paragraphs, JSON records or diff hunks against a plain-English question instead of a pattern, exploring the scored results live in the terminal.

It runs entirely on the CPU with no API key and nothing leaving the machine, downloading a small local model on first run; familiar grep flags carry over, such as matching only file names, counting matches or inverting a match, and several questions can be asked at once.

An interactive live view shows scores as they arrive, with an adjustable threshold slider; an automatic mode picks a cut-off from the score distribution itself, and named questions such as secret, PII or error, or the user's own, can be reused across runs. Identical lines are scored once, and in fuzzy mode lines that differ only in numbers, timestamps or IDs share an answer, so a log with a few dozen distinct line shapes costs only a few dozen model calls.

It offers three local models trading off speed, accuracy and language coverage, and reports what a run cost on every run; it installs via a shell script, Homebrew, or building from source with Cargo.
