# HLSL-LSP

An editor-independent language server for HLSL shaders, built on DXC's IntelliSense API, providing compiler-accurate diagnostics, completion, hover, semantic colouring and shader compilation inspection for Visual Studio and VS Code.

HLSL-LSP is an LSP 3.17 stdio server for HLSL built around DXC's IDxcIntelliSense API, so its diagnostics, completion, hover and signature help are backed by the actual compiler rather than a separate reimplementation of HLSL semantics. It supports UTF-16 incremental document sync, shader-aware inlay hints for inferred types and resource bindings, constant-buffer memory layout inspection, macro expansion at invocation sites, and DXC-backed compilation inspection covering configuration, diagnostics, compiler statistics, reflection and disassembly.

Other features include resource binding inspection across register spaces and root signatures, semantic colouring, go-to-definition, compiler-verified quick fixes, workspace symbol search, a shared JSON Schema for its shadertoolsconfig.json configuration, named compilation variants and graphics pipelines, a selectable DXC runtime, and cancellable background analysis.

Clients are provided for Visual Studio 2022 and 2026 and for Visual Studio Code; the Visual Studio extension is positioned as a modern alternative to HLSL Tools, and the two should not be enabled together.
