Homebrew Cask
The default collection of casks, or package definitions, that let the Homebrew package manager install prebuilt GUI apps, CLI tools, fonts and plugins on macOS and Linux.
Homebrew Cask extends Homebrew to the installation and management of prebuilt software artifacts distributed by their own upstream vendors, including GUI applications, command-line tools, fonts, browser plugins and other packaged software, rather than software built from source. It provides a single, consistent command-line workflow for installing, updating and removing this software on macOS and Linux, in place of manually downloading an installer and dragging it into place.
Installing a cask requires only that Homebrew itself is already installed; a single brew install command then downloads, verifies and places the application. The project documents common errors and their solutions, including issues with curl, permission errors, checksum mismatches and macOS blocking apps from unidentified developers.
New casks are added through pull requests rather than issues, and the project is released under the BSD 2-Clause license.
