# Infracost

A cloud-cost intelligence toolkit for engineers, AI coding agents and CI/CD, estimating Terraform, CloudFormation and AWS CDK cost changes and FinOps policy violations before they are deployed.

Infracost estimates cloud costs and checks FinOps policy for infrastructure-as-code written in Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation or AWS CDK, before any change is actually deployed, and shows the result wherever an engineer already works: a terminal, an editor, an AI coding agent, or directly inside a pull request. Every entry point talks to the same pricing engine and the same configured FinOps policies, so a check set up once applies everywhere.

Its command-line tool scans a project for a full cost breakdown and policy recommendations, with deeper commands for inspecting cost drivers at the level of individual resources, and an interactive setup command wires up authentication, editor integration, AI-agent skills and continuous-integration checks together. A separate agent-skills package plugs Infracost into Claude Code, Cursor and other AI coding agents, with skills that keep generated infrastructure code compliant with tagging, region and budget policy, scan an existing project for cost and policy violations, and answer price-lookup questions for a given resource and region without needing any existing code.

Editor extensions add inline cost hints and policy diagnostics while editing infrastructure files directly.
