# IronMesh

A local-first, end-to-end encrypted mesh protocol that lets AI agents exchange messages directly over a LAN or LoRa radio with no cloud, internet connection or central server required.

IronMesh is a peer-to-peer protocol for agent-to-agent communication built to keep working when the network does not: it discovers peers automatically on a local network through mDNS, supports an optional LoRa radio transport, and needs no cloud service, unlike alternatives its authors compare it to, which assume constant internet access or a complex identity setup. A one-command demo spawns two local agent daemons, exchanges an encrypted handshake and ping, and tears down, confirming an install works in about a minute.

Its cryptography is built on audited libsodium and PyNaCl primitives, with forward-secret session keys, an offline encrypted message queue, and version-gated wire-format changes so newer and older peers keep interoperating. It has been validated on a three-node mesh including a real Android client and a LoRa radio link, and has passed a self-audit and rounds of adversarial review, though the project is explicit that an independent, paid third-party security audit has not yet been done. It installs with pip.
