jgrep
A grep-like command-line tool that filters lines by a plain-language description of what should match, using a small decision model to answer a yes-or-no question per line instead of a regular expression.
jgrep turns each line of input into one yes-or-no question for Jev, a decision model from TypeSafe that returns a probability rather than generated text, in about 200 milliseconds and roughly a thousandth of a cent per line, which is fast and cheap enough to sit in a streaming pipe such as tail -f as well as run over a static file. Lines are judged concurrently but printed back out in their original input order.
It needs an API key for TypeSafe or OpenRouter, or none at all when pointed at a local server or a gateway already in use, such as LiteLLM or a corporate proxy; a gateway is used by passing its URL and key and receives the same request body jgrep would otherwise send directly. Optional syntax parsers add structured matching for Go and C functions, while Python functions and unified diffs work with the base install.
It is written in Python.
