# kiso

A durable AI coding agent for the terminal, built on an embeddable TypeScript runtime kernel capped at 2,200 lines, that resumes exactly where it left off after a crash because every approval and tool result is committed to disk as it happens.

kiso commits every approval and tool result to disk the moment it happens, so after a crash, a kill -9 or a closed terminal, resuming continues from that durable prefix: output still streaming when the process died is regenerated, and any side effect whose outcome is unknown is handed to a human rather than silently repeated. As a session approaches half its context window, kiso compacts at the end of a phase and replaces the previous summary instead of accumulating them, and it learns a model's real context limit when an endpoint refuses an oversized request.

Five approval modes govern what kiso may do without asking, a rule for not asking again can be turned into an editable rule file, and even in a fully permissive mode a command that would cause unrecoverable damage is still refused. It connects to DeepSeek, Anthropic, OpenAI, a ChatGPT subscription through a browser sign-in, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, and every turn's context usage is inspectable from the terminal.

The runtime kernel is written in TypeScript, requires Node 22 or later, and is licensed under MIT; kiso-code is the coding agent built on it.
