# Leftovers

A free, open-source macOS menu-bar app that finds the dev servers, builds and MCP server copies that coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex leave running, measuring each process's real memory footprint including what has been swapped out.

Leftovers is a macOS menu-bar app that looks for processes left running by apps and coding agents after a session ends, on the reasoning that each agent session tends to start dev servers, builds and its own copy of every MCP server, then moves on without stopping them. Rather than sorting by memory currently in RAM the way Activity Monitor does, which can hide a process that has been swapped out, it reads each process's full footprint: memory in RAM plus compressed plus swapped, which is the number macOS actually pays for.

Its dashboard breaks disk usage into system, installed-app and user data, and can empty developer caches that rebuild themselves, such as Xcode build files, simulator caches, and package-manager caches for npm, pnpm, Yarn, Bun, pip, uv, Poetry, Homebrew, SwiftPM, CocoaPods, Gradle, Go, Cargo and Playwright, only while nothing using them is running. A dedicated view shows memory per coding-agent session, including Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor Agent, Aider and OpenCode, and another lists git worktrees that are already merged, including squash-merged branches that git's own merged check cannot see, and safe to remove.
