Macaw — the Siri you always wanted, that's actually yours
Macaw is a private, on-device AI agent for macOS built around a small fine-tuned model that can call ninety-seven verified tools to control mail, files, calendar, music and system settings from a floating prompt bar, with no cloud calls or accounts.
The model is a 2.7 billion parameter fine-tune of Liquid AI's LFM2.5, served locally through MLX in a 4-bit build, and the macOS app runs in the menu bar, starts the model server automatically, and exposes a floating prompt bar for multi-step natural-language commands. Seven of its tools, covering things like screen reading and document reading, shell out to helper scripts that need to be installed separately, and screen reading and app control both require macOS permission grants the first time they are used.
The project reports measured accuracy and latency numbers on Apple M2 hardware for its 4-bit build, and ships both the app source and a command-line agent loop as alternative ways to drive the same tool set.
Model weights are published on Hugging Face, the app code is MIT licensed, and it requires Apple Silicon.
