# mcp-gitlab

An MCP server for the GitLab REST API providing dozens of tools, resources and prompts so AI assistants can manage projects, merge requests, pipelines, CI/CD variables, approvals, issues and code review.

It works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code Copilot, Gemini CLI and any other MCP-compatible client, and supports both GitLab.com and self-hosted GitLab Community or Enterprise instances, with no GitLab Duo or Premium subscription required.

It checks several environment variable names for a token in order, accepting personal access tokens, OAuth2 tokens and other GitLab token types, plus options to force read-only mode, adjust the request timeout, or skip SSL verification for self-hosted instances.

It is built with FastMCP, httpx and Pydantic, and installs with `uvx mcp-gitlab` or from PyPI.
