# MongoDB MCP Server

The official Model Context Protocol server for MongoDB, letting an AI agent connect to a self-managed MongoDB deployment or MongoDB Atlas through a common set of tools.

MongoDB MCP Server is a Model Context Protocol server for interacting with MongoDB databases and MongoDB Atlas. It comes bundled with official MongoDB plugins for AI agents: a hosted `mongodb-atlas` plugin that connects to a MongoDB-run Atlas MCP server over OAuth with nothing to run locally, and a `mongodb` plugin that runs the MCP server locally against any self-managed deployment.

It can be installed from marketplaces inside Cursor, Claude, Codex, VS Code, Gemini, GitHub Copilot CLI, or Grok Build, through an interactive setup command (`npx mongodb-mcp-server@latest setup`) that walks through configuring a connection string or Atlas API credentials, through a bundled MongoDB MCP setup skill, or by manual configuration with environment variables or command-line arguments. It exposes separate Atlas, database, and assistant tool sets, and can be deployed on Azure.

It is written in TypeScript and released under the Apache-2.0 license.
