# Multi-Agent Reference Architecture

A vendor-neutral guide to designing, governing, and scaling multi-agent systems, covering building blocks, memory, inter-agent communication, observability, evaluation, security, and governance.

This repository is a conceptual guide, backed by practical resources, for architecting multi-agent systems rather than individual agents. It focuses on the problems that appear once several specialized agents must be orchestrated, governed, and scaled together, and argues for designing for change while still shipping pragmatically.

The guide is grounded in patterns drawn from production deployments built with Microsoft customers, and aims to be broad enough to apply across technology stacks and frameworks rather than tied to one vendor's tools. Chapters cover building blocks, design options, an agent registry, memory, agent-to-agent communication, observability, evaluation, security, and governance, ending in a dedicated reference-architecture chapter.

It targets software architects, engineers, and data scientists who already have some experience building agentic systems and want guidance on extending or designing multi-agent architectures.
