# Octocode

A single Rust binary that builds a live knowledge graph and MCP server for a codebase, so Claude, Cursor and other AI agents can search it semantically and navigate its imports, calls and dependencies as structure rather than flat text.

Octocode uses tree-sitter AST parsing to extract files and symbols and the deterministic relationships between them: containment, imports, calls, extends and implements. Its MCP `graphrag` tool builds this graph lazily from the current source tree with no index, embeddings or LLM call required, and always-on graph navigation works even with indexed GraphRAG disabled.

An optional indexed GraphRAG mode overlays semantic file matches, LLM-generated descriptions and broader file-level architectural relationships on top of the live graph, though symbols themselves are never embedded or LLM-generated. Hybrid search combines semantic similarity, BM25 full-text search and reranking for meaning-based retrieval.

It also exposes code signatures so a structure can be viewed without reading whole files, and LSP-precision navigation, go-to-definition, find-references and hover documentation, through a project's own language server. It works with Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf and any MCP-compatible client.
