# OpenClient

An open-source native iOS, iPadOS, and macOS chat client, built with SwiftUI, that connects directly to a user's own LiteLLM, Ollama, or OpenAI-compatible server with no OpenClient-hosted proxy or subscription in between.

OpenClient connects directly to whatever AI server a user configures, whether that is LiteLLM, Ollama, or another server implementing the OpenAI-compatible endpoints the app needs, with no proxy or subscription operated by the app's own developers sitting in between; requests may still reach whichever providers are configured behind that server. It streams responses with Markdown and code-block rendering, shows a collapsible thinking block for reasoning models such as DeepSeek and o1, and supports attaching photos, camera shots, and PDF documents for multimodal conversations, along with speech-to-text dictation and text-to-speech playback.

Server-configured web search, function calling, and MCP tools exposed through LiteLLM can be discovered, enabled, and executed from the chat input bar, connecting to external services such as GitHub, filesystems, and databases through MCP servers configured on the user's own backend. Conversations sync through iCloud and integrate with the Apple ecosystem through the Share Sheet, Shortcuts, widgets, Control Center, and a macOS menu bar companion, and the complete project is open source under the GNU AGPL.
