OpenCode Primer

A community-maintained guide to OpenCode, the open-source terminal AI coding agent, covering setup, custom commands, skills, plugins, MCP integrations, and headless CI use.

OpenCode Primer

OpenCode Primer is an independent, community-maintained guide to OpenCode, an open-source AI coding agent distributed as a terminal app, desktop app, and IDE extension that reads a repository, runs commands, edits files, and talks to any LLM a user points it at. The guide walks from a first prompt through custom commands, skills, plugins, agents, MCP integrations, and headless and CI usage, organized into paths for newcomers, existing users, and those configuring the tool.

It explains OpenCode's three interaction surfaces: an interactive terminal UI for day-to-day work, a headless CLI for scripts and CI jobs, and a server mode exposing a headless API, web UI, or remote attach point. It highlights what distinguishes OpenCode from a plain chat interface: reading a real repository through built-in file and search tools, editing files and running a project's own tests or linter, and composing with multi-provider models, custom slash commands, plugins, MCP servers, and language servers.

It is written in JavaScript under the MIT license, and is not affiliated with the OpenCode team.
