# Pinecone Gemini CLI Extension

The official Pinecone extension for Gemini CLI, adding Agent Skills and MCP tools for managing vector indexes, running semantic search and building document question-answering assistants from the terminal.

This extension adds Pinecone vector-database management to Gemini CLI through a set of Agent Skills that are invoked automatically based on the conversation, alongside MCP tools for direct access. Skills cover a guided quickstart, semantic text search over an existing index, and building a retrieval-augmented document question-answering assistant, and a skill can also be called by name if the agent does not pick it up automatically.

It installs with a single Gemini CLI extension-install command and needs a free Pinecone account and API key, which must be set both in the MCP server configuration and as an environment variable so the bundled skill scripts can read it; the uv tool is recommended for running those scripts. A separate optional Pinecone CLI adds more advanced vector-management commands.
