# re_gent

A command-line tool that automatically records every action a coding agent takes inside a project, so a change can be traced to the exact prompt that produced it and any step can be inspected afterward.

re_gent tracks what an AI coding agent did inside a project: which tool ran, which file changed, and which prompt produced each line. A log command lists each recorded step with its tool, file and diff size; a blame command traces a specific line back to the step, session and prompt that wrote it; and a show command inspects the full context around any step.

It runs alongside agents such as Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode without requiring manual commits, tracking activity automatically as the agent works, including multiple concurrent sessions that can be filtered separately in the log. The authors position it as the version control layer agents do not have on their own, complementing rather than replacing a project's existing git history.

It installs with Homebrew or with Go install, and is written in Go.
