translate

A deterministic, on-device command-line translator for macOS Tahoe that also runs as an HTTP server compatible with the DeepL, LibreTranslate and Google Translate v2 APIs, with no cloud calls or LLM.

translate

translate is a small macOS command-line tool built as a UNIX-style filter: text in on standard input, translated text out on standard output. It runs entirely on-device using Apple's Translation framework, auto-detects the source language, reuses a single translation session per run, and batches work where possible, with no cloud calls, API keys, telemetry or third-party translation libraries involved.

With a serve flag it exposes the same on-device engine over HTTP in a form byte-compatible with the DeepL, LibreTranslate and Google Translate v2 APIs, so existing client libraries written against those services can point at it unchanged. Because Apple's Translation framework is a deterministic neural engine, the same input always produces the same output. It requires macOS Tahoe on Apple Silicon and installs by cloning the repository and running its makefile.
