# VION Protocol

A constitutional governance runtime for autonomous AI agents that enforces defined rules, verified agent identities, and bounded permissions, working with any agent framework and halting or escalating automatically on a violation.

VION Protocol governs what an autonomous AI agent is allowed to do once it has access to real systems such as databases, APIs, financial services, or private data, addressing gaps the project identifies in typical setups: a system prompt can simply be ignored or overridden, there is no cryptographic way to prove which agent performed a given action, no enforcement happens without a human watching every action, and there is no tamper-evident record of what happened. It integrates with existing agent frameworks such as LangChain and CrewAI through adapters, wrapping an agent's own function so every task it runs is governed and every event is logged.

The protocol defines six automatic halt-or-escalate conditions, covering an unauthorized command source, a scope violation, unexpected peer-to-peer communication, an output-audit failure, a risk-cap breach, and a violation of the protocol's own integrity, each escalating and then halting the agent after a defined number of repeated violations, with no human intervention required to trigger the response. Version 1.3.0 added optional session governance, action limits, authority expiry, and JSON session audit reports on top of the existing validation pipeline.
