# Terms of service

These terms govern your use of DevList.app, a hand-curated directory of
software engineering resources run by Shawn McAllister ("we", "us"). By
using the site or creating an account you agree to them. Questions go to
our [support tracker](https://github.com/eas4ai/devlist-support/issues).

## Your account

Give a real email address and keep your password to yourself; you are
responsible for what is done with your account. You must be at least 13
years old to create one. We may suspend or close an account that breaks
these terms.

## Listings

A listing describes and links to a developer resource. When you submit
one:

- It must be about a resource you have the right to describe, and what you
  write must be accurate and your own.
- Every submission and change is reviewed. We decide what is listed, and
  we may edit a listing's categories, reject it, or suspend it when it is
  off-topic, misleading, unsafe or unlawful.
- You keep the rights to what you submit and let us display, store and
  adapt it (for example into a social card) on the site and in its feeds,
  sitemaps and previews for as long as it is listed.
- Listing on DevList is not an endorsement, and we do not host, run or
  vouch for the resources listed.

Some listings were added by us from public sources before their owners
had an account.

## Claims

You may claim a listing we added if you control its website or its
repository, by publishing the claim token we give you where we ask for
it. A claim moves the listing to your account. Claiming a listing you do
not control is a breach of these terms; we will reverse it and may close
the account.

## Badges and links

You may use the "Listed on DevList" badges to link to your listing's
DevList page, unaltered. Supporters, listings whose sites link back, may
appear in the Supporters row; that placement is at our discretion and is
not paid.

## Acceptable use

Do not use the site to break the law; to submit spam, malware, or content
that infringes someone else's rights; to impersonate others; to probe,
overload or scrape the site beyond normal browsing; or to get around its
limits and reviews.

## Paid placement

The site does not charge for listings today. If paid placement is offered
later, its price, length and placement are shown before you pay, the
payment is handled by the provider you choose, and it buys visibility
only, not approval: a listing must still pass review.

## No warranty

The site is provided as is. We do our best to keep listings accurate and
the site available, but we do not promise either, and you use the listed
resources at your own risk.

## Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or
consequential losses, or for anything arising from the resources listed,
and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12
months before the claim, or 100 US dollars if you paid nothing.

## Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina,
United States, and disputes are resolved in the courts of North Carolina.

## Changes

When these terms change, we update the date at the top. If a change
affects account holders, we tell them by email before it takes effect;
using the site after that means you accept the new terms.
