Acolyte

An open-source AI coding agent for the terminal that remembers what it learns about a user and their projects from the work itself, avoiding re-explaining context on every session.

Acolyte

Acolyte runs as a persistent daemon exposing typed RPC to a CLI, editors and custom clients, with explicit, testable lifecycle phases, effects and completion rules for each task. Its memory system retrieves durable session, project and user context on demand, its workspace layer detects project commands and validates a boundary for tool access, and it plans input budgets and bounds tool payloads while keeping token use visible.

Every file edit is reported as a Git diff, and a workspaces feature manages Git worktrees, so Git 2.14 or newer is required. It installs through a self-updating launcher via a shell script, Homebrew or npm, is built in TypeScript on the Bun runtime with Zod validation at its runtime boundaries, and stores provider credentials, such as for Anthropic, OpenAI or Google, in a private global credentials file.
