The City is a native macOS app, written in Swift, that shows Claude Code runs as a city of robot-staffed offices. Each project folder becomes a building, each building has floors of robots, and every animation comes from a real event in the claude CLI's stream; it starts its own Claude Code runs using the CLI already installed on the machine, and those runs count toward the user's existing plan.
A floor is a saved team of departments, a model, a budget and allowed services and skills, backed by its own Claude session and job history, and floors run in parallel. A receptionist routes a request to the floor whose team fits, taking already-running work into account, or proposes a new floor; a new floor's departments come from the project's own agent definitions and can be hired or released. Behind the scenes, a floor runs the CLI in a streaming JSON mode, with subagents working at their department's desk.
It requires macOS 26 or later and a recent version of Claude Code installed and signed in, plus Apple Intelligence for the on-device model that routes work, with a word-overlap check as a fallback when that is unavailable.
