Agent AFK

An open-source coding agent CLI, daemon and Telegram bridge that builds a feature and verifies its own work in the background, notifying the user when it finishes or needs a decision, and works with any model provider including local models.

Agent AFK

Agent AFK is a coding agent that runs a task to completion in the background rather than requiring the user to watch it work. Its daemon mode runs headless and can page a user over Telegram when a run reaches a terminal state; every run writes an append-only trace of tool calls, gate decisions, subagent lifecycles and cost that can be printed back as a readable receipt.

It provides a terminal chat and a REPL with tool access such as shell commands, file operations, web fetch and subagents, detects and imports existing Claude Code or Codex credentials and configuration, and continues to pick up plugins, skills and MCP servers installed in those tools without a separate re-run. When it is unsure about a step, it stops and asks instead of guessing.

It runs locally, keeps the user's own API keys, is written in TypeScript, and is licensed under Apache-2.0.
