AI Memory Vault

AI Memory Vault is a free, open-source system and template set that turns an Obsidian vault into an AI coding agent's persistent working memory, using plain markdown files instead of a vector database.

AI Memory Vault

AI Memory Vault is built and tested on Claude Code, though any terminal-based AI that can read and write files can use it with some rough edges. Run inside Claude, its build script checks whether Obsidian is installed and installs it if not, interviews the user, and then builds a self-maintaining system: a boot configuration, a folder structure organized around the user's real projects, daily notes that write themselves, a profile that updates as the AI learns about the user, and reusable Jobs that teach the AI to perform recurring tasks in the user's own way.

Because the vault lives outside the model as plain markdown, it has no size ceiling, and the AI reads back only what a given task needs rather than holding everything in context at once. The project also ships with the author's own configured agent persona, which can be kept, renamed or replaced by editing one section of one file.

It is free to use, share and build on commercially, and is licensed under CC-BY-SA-4.0.
