chatless

A local-first desktop AI chat client, built with Tauri and Next.js, that connects to cloud providers such as OpenAI or Anthropic or to local models through Ollama or LM Studio, with document parsing and a local retrieval-augmented knowledge base.

chatless

chatless is a desktop application for chatting with either cloud AI services or locally run models. It stores conversation data entirely on the device, parses PDF, Word and Markdown documents, and builds a local vector-search knowledge base so answers can be grounded in the user's own files. It can also analyze images with vision models, connects to further tools through MCP, manages reusable prompts, and can sync prompts between devices over WebDAV using a chunked JSON format with tombstone-based deletion.

It is built with Tauri 2.0, Next.js 15, TypeScript, Rust and SQLite, and ships prebuilt installers for Windows, macOS and Linux as well as instructions for building from source with pnpm.
