cmux is a Ghostty-based macOS terminal built for multitasking with AI coding agents. Panes get a highlighted ring and their tabs light up when an agent needs attention, and a notification panel lists everything pending so a user can jump to the most recent unread item.
A sidebar shows the git branch, linked pull request status, working directory, listening ports and latest notification per tab, with vertical and horizontal splits. A scriptable in-app browser, ported from agent-browser, can sit alongside the terminal, importing cookies, history and sessions from more than 20 browsers so panes start already authenticated. Running cmux over SSH creates a workspace for a remote machine with browser panes routed through the remote network, and a dedicated command runs Claude Code's teammate mode as native split panes without tmux.
It is a native macOS app written in Swift and AppKit rather than Electron, reads an existing Ghostty configuration for themes and fonts, and is free and GPL-licensed. It installs from a disk image or through Homebrew.
