Codex CLI

Codex CLI is a coding agent from OpenAI that runs locally on the user's computer from the terminal. It can also be used inside an IDE such as VS Code, Cursor or Windsurf, as a desktop app, or through OpenAI's cloud-based Codex Web.

It installs with a shell script on macOS and Linux or PowerShell on Windows, or through npm or Homebrew, and prebuilt binaries are also published as GitHub releases. After installing, signing in with a ChatGPT account gives access to Codex as part of a Plus, Pro, Business, Edu or Enterprise plan; it can also be used with an API key, which needs additional setup.

It is written in Rust and released under the Apache-2.0 license.
