codex-desktop

An unofficial, community-built Linux packaging of OpenAI's official ChatGPT desktop app, repackaging the signed macOS-derived Linux payload into deb, RPM, pacman, AppImage and Nix builds.

codex-desktop

codex-desktop is an unofficial, community-maintained distribution of OpenAI's official Linux ChatGPT desktop application, built from OpenAI's signed upstream Linux payload. It verifies and repackages that payload, adds Linux features that are disabled by default, and produces installable packages for Debian and Ubuntu, Fedora and openSUSE, Arch, Nix and NixOS, along with an AppImage.

The build reuses OpenAI's official Electron runtime, native modules, bundled tools and libraries, and preserves the official runtime and bundled tools unchanged, applying only the compatibility patches required to run on Linux; optional Linux-specific features stay disabled unless explicitly selected. The packaged app is labeled 'ChatGPT Community' with its own icon and installation path so it can be distinguished from an official ChatGPT package.

It is licensed under MIT and includes make-based bootstrap commands for each supported distribution.
