Codex-Local: Enhanced OpenAI Codex CLI

A fork of OpenAI's Codex CLI that adds multi-agent orchestration, letting a parent agent spawn specialized child agents that work in parallel and report progress back.

Codex-Local: Enhanced OpenAI Codex CLI

Codex-Local extends OpenAI's Codex CLI with multi-agent orchestration and additional tooling not in the upstream project, while running alongside an existing Codex or Cursor installation without conflict.

Its core feature is a spawn-agent tool: a parent agent receives a complex task, spawns specialized child agents for different subtasks, and those children work independently with their own tool access. A return-progress tool lets children send status updates back to the parent, which coordinates all children and synthesizes their results, useful for long-running tasks the parent needs to monitor. An enhanced tool registry supports conditionally enabled tools and parallel tool execution.
